The XGames site (external link)
After a difficult redesign in October 2007, which the team and I wasn’t completely happy with, I was given the task to redesign the site with a new banner created by my talented workmate, Eduard Donea. I decided to implement site wide changes that involved making the site easier to use and more attractive to read.
The first of these changes was implementing a large central image to act as a focal point for visitors to the site. Adapted from the previous version of the site, which displayed the three major features the company offers, the banner now changes dynamically by clicking on the links to display the features one at a time. This was done so the user was not overloaded with information and could digest it individually.
The boxes below the banner were adapted from an iteration of the previous design which used text to expand further on what the company does. These were tided up to make their implementation clearer. I also removed sIFR technique from the titles as this hampered page load time and the benefits were not justified.
The site was designed to replicate the look of a casino while staying professional, using red and black, common colours in gambling and taken direct from the company logo. I decided to go with a light on dark for the text as this fit the design more and does not dramatically reduce readability due to the short passages of text on the site.
The site uses a custom PHP template system, the javascript framework, JQuery for the effects and google maps API on the contact page.
